Two satellites of equal masses, which can be considered as particles are orbiting the earth at different heights. Will their moment of inertia be same or different ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Moments of inertia of the two satellites will be different. This is because, `I = mass xx (disatnce)^(2)`. For the satellite revolving at a greater height, distance from the axis of rotation is larger. Therefore, its moment of inertia is larger.
