Assertion: In an isothermal proces, whole of heat energy supplied to the body id converted into work.
Reason: According to first law of thermodynamics `DeltaQ=DeltaU+PDeltaV`

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

If assertion is true, but the reason is false.

D

If assertion is false but the reason is true

The correct Answer is:
D

In isothermal process, internal energy of the system does not change. Thus, from `1^(st)` law of thermodynamics:
`DeltaQ=DeltaU+PDeltaV`
we have, `DeltaQ=PDeltaV = DeltaW (:' DeltaU=0)`
Thus, in isothermal process whole of the heat energy supplied to the body is use in doing work angainst external work.

"It is impossible to convert total heat into work" thiis is the statement of -_____ law of thermodynamics.

Assertion : For an isothermal process in an ideal gas, the heat obsorbed by the gas is entirely used in the work done by the gas. Reason : During a process taking place in a system, the temperature remains constant then the process is isothermal.

Assertion : The efficiency of a heat engine can never be unity. Reason : Efficiency of heat engine is fundamental limitation given by first law of thermodynamics.

Assertion If work done by conservative force is negative, then potential energy associated with that force should increase. Reason This is according to the relation DeltaU=-W Here, DeltaU is change in potential energy and W is work done by conservative force.

Assertion : When current is drawn from a cell, chemical energy is converted into heat energy. Reason : This is because wire through which current flows gets heated.
