Two blocks A and B of equal mass m are connected through a massless string and arranged as shown in figure. The wedge is fixed on horizontal surface. Friction is absent everwhere. When the system is released from rest.

A

tension in string is `(mg)/2`

B

tension in string is `(mg)/4`

C

acceleration of A is g/2

D

acceleration of A is 3/2 g

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
`B, D`

Let a be acceleration of system and `T` be tension in, the string `F.B.D` of block `A`
`mg sin 30^(@)+T=ma`
`(mg)/(2)+T=ma` ....(i)
`F.B.D` of block `B`
`mg-T=ma `....(ii)
Adding equaion (i) `&` (ii), we get
`2ma=(3mg)/(2)rArr a=(3)/(4)g`
from equation (i),
`T=(mg)/(4)`

Two blocks of equal mass, M each, are connected to two ends of a massless string passing over a massless pulley. On one side of the string there is a bead of mass (M)/(2) . (a) When the system is released from rest the bead continues to remain at rest while the two blocks accelerate. Find the acceleration of the blocks. (b) Find the acceleration of the two blocks if it was observed that the bead was sliding down with a constant velocity relative to the string.
