Find the distance between each of the fo...

Find the distance between each of the following pairs of the points.
`R(0,-3), S(0, 5/2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Suppose the coordinates of point R are `(x_(1),y_(1))` and of point S are `(x_(2),y_(2))`.
`:.x_(1)=0,y_(1)=-3,x_(2)=0` and `y_(2)=5/2`
By distance formula,
`RS=sqrt((x_(2)-x_(1)^(2))+(y_(2)-y_(1))^(2))`
`=sqrt((0-0)^(2)+(5/2-(-3))^(2))`
`=sqrt(0+(5/2+3)^(2))`
`=sqrt(0+((5+6)/2)^(2))`
`=sqrt((11/2)^(2))`
`=11/2`
Distance between points R and S is `11/2`.
