Find the distance between each of the fo...

Find the distance between each of the following pairs of the points.
`T(-3,6),R(9,-10)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Suppose the coordinates of point T are `(x_(1),y_(1))` and of point R are `(x_(2),y_(2))`.
`:.x_(1)=-3,y_(1)=6,x_(2)=9` and `y_(2)=-10`
By distance forumula.
`TR=sqrt((x_(2)-x_(1))^(2)+(y_(2)-y_(1))^(2))`
`=sqrt([9-(-3)]^(2)+(-10-6)^(2))`
`=sqrt((9+3)^(2)+(-16)^(2))`
`=sqrt(12^(2)+(-16)^(2))`
`=sqrt(144+256)`
`=sqrt(400)`
`=20`
Distance between points T and R is 20.
