What is a solenoid ? Compare the magnetic fleld produced by a solenoid with the magnetic fleld of a bar magnet. Draw neat figures and name various eomponents.

When a copper wire with a resistive coating is wound in a chain of loops (like a spring), it is called a solenoid. The magnetic field lines (magnetic lines of force) due to a current-carrying solenoid are similar to those of a bar magnet. One face of the coil acts as the south pole and the other face as the north pole
