2. When water is poured in the vesel , the slanting rays of the sun travel from air ( rarer medium ) to water ( denser medium ) . During this propagation, they bend towards the normal on refraction. Hence, some part in the region of the shadow is now illuminated and the shadow appears to have shifted.
