A charged metallic ball is lowered into an insulated metal can.

The ball is made to touch bottom of the can. Then it is placed on the disc of electroscope shown below. Final

A

leaves of electroscope diverges

B

leaves of electroscope converges

C

leaves of electroscope remains unaffected

D

leaves of electroscope oscillates

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

When charged metallic ball touches the bottom of can, all of its charge goes to the outer suface of the can. (Net charge on a conductor lies only on its surface).
When ball is withdrawn fron the can, it is uncharged. When ball is placed on the disc of electroscope .Final charge on the leaves is reduced so leaves electroscope converges.

Two equally charged small metal balls placed at a fixed distance experience a force F. A similar unchanged metal ball after touching one of them is placed at the middle point between the two balls. The force experienced by this ball is

A fixed non conducting smooth track is in the shape of a quarter circle of radius R in vertical plane. A small metal ball A is fixed at the bottom of the track. Another identical ball B, which is free to move, is placed in contact with ball A. A charge Q is given to ball A which gets equally shared by the two balls. Ball B gets repelled and ultimately comes to rest in its equilibrium position where its radius vector makes an angle theta (theta lt 90^(@)) with vertical. Mass of ball is m. Find charge Q that was given to the balls.

A ball of mass 10^(-2) kg and having charge + 3 xx 10^(-6)C is tied at one end of a 1m along thread. The other end of the thread is fixed and a charge - 3 xx 10^(-6) C is placed at this end. The ball can move in the circulr orbit of radius 1m in the vertical plane. Initially, the ball is at the bottom. Find the monimum initial horizontal velocity of the ball, so that it will be able to complete the full circle.

Two elastic balls of masses M and m (M gt gt m) are placed on top of each other with a small gap between them. The balls are dropped on to the ground with the bottom of the lower ball at height h above the ground. The lower ball has a radius R and the upper ball has negligible dimension. (a) Up to what height the ball of mass m will bounce above the ground ? (b) Does the result obtained above violates the low of conservation of mechanical energy?
