Eutrophication

What is Eutrophication?

Eutrophication happens to be the process where the water body becomes overly enriched with nutrients. This leads to the good growth of simple plant life. When it comes to indicators of this process, it is the excess growth of plankton as well as algae. It happens to be a serious environmental concern as the quality of the water gets deteriorated. So over time, eutrophic waters become “dead zones” which proves to be incapable of supporting life.

Coming to the aquatic ecosystems, they are home to a lot of animals and plant life forms in both simple as well as a complex process. By promoting the growth of plant life, the balance in the ecosystem gets destroyed with the process of eutrophication. By harming or killing off several desirable species, it greatly decreases the biodiversity of the ecosystem.
