Resolving power `=1.22lambda/d`, where `lambda` is wavelength and d is distance. For the human eye the resolving power or angular separation of objects changes as distance from the object changes. Thus, when we are close to the pointing our eyes can pick out the separate colours of dots. But when we move away from the painting, our eyes blend the dots and we see different colours.
