Assertion : Corpuscular theory fails to ...

Assertion : Corpuscular theory fails to explain the velocities of light in air and water.
Reason : According to corpuscular theory, light should travel faster in denser media than in rarer media.

A

(a) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

B

(b) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

(c) If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

(d) If assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
B

According to Newton's corpuscular theory of light, the light should travel faster in denser media than in rarer media. It is contrary to present theory of light which explains that light travels faster in air (rarer) than in water (denser).
