Calculate the angular momentum of the fo...

Calculate the angular momentum of the following :
(a) 3 rd orbit , (b) 4 p orbital , (c ) 3 d orbital .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) Angular momentum of 3rd orbit
` = n. h/( 2 pi) = (3h)/(2pi) = 3h `( "where" ` h = h/2 ` and ` h = h/( 2 pi`)
(b) Angular momentum of `4p` orbital
` = h/( 2 pi) sqrt ( l 9 l +1) = h/( 2pi) sqrt 2 = h/( sqrt 2 pi)`
( c) Angualr momentum of ` 3 d` orbital
` = h/( 2 pi) sqrt 6 = ( sqrt 3)/( sqrt 2) . h/(pi) `
Number of spherical nodes ` = n-l-1`
Number of angular nodes ` = l`
Total nodes ` = ( n -1)` .
