For the reaction, A+BhArr3C, at 25^(@)C,...

For the reaction, `A+BhArr3C`, at `25^(@)C`, a `3 litre` vessel contains `1`, `2`, `4mol es` of `A`, `B` and `C` respectively. If `K_(c)` for the reaction is `10`, the reaction will proceed in :

A

forward direction

B

backward direction

C

in either direction

D

in equilibrium

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Quotient Q=([C]^(3))/([A][B])=(4^(3)xx3xx3)/(3^(3)xx1xx2)=10.66`
[`[C]=(4)/(3)`, `[A]=(1)/(3)`, `[B]=(2)/(3)`]
Since `K_(c)=10`. Thus `Q` must decrease to attain value of `K_(c)` and therefore `[C]` must decrease or `[A]` or `[B]` must increase i.e., backward direction.

Mass action ratio or reaction quotient Q for a reaction can be calculated using the law of mass actionl, A(g)+B(g)hArrC(g)+D(g) Q=([C][D])/([A][B]) The value of Q decides whether the reaction is at equilibrium or not. At equilibrium, Q=K For non-equilibrium process QneK When QgtK , reaction will be favoured in backward direction and when QltK , it will be favoured in forward direction. For the reaction : 2A+BhArr3C at 298 K, K_(c)=49 A 3 L vessel contains 2, 1 and 3 moles of A, B and C respectively. The reaction at the same temperature :
