Assertion : We can not move even a finge...

Assertion : We can not move even a finger without disturbing all the stars.
Reason : Every body in this universe attracts every other body with a force which is unversely proportional to the square of distance between them.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When we move our finger, the distances of the various objects in universe from our finger change. Due to it, the garvitational force attraction between those objects and finger changes hence the force of attraction changes. This will disturb the entire universe including the stars.

We cannot move finger without disturbing all stars. Why?

According to Newton's law of gravitational, everybody in this universe attracts every other body with a force, which is directly proportional to the product of their masses and is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centres, i.e., F prop (m_(1)m_(2))/(r^(2)) or F = (Gm_(1)m_(2))/(r^(2)) where G is universal gravitational constant = 6.67 xx 10^(-11) Nm^(2) kg^(-2) . (i) What is the value of G on the surface of moon? (ii) How is the gravitational force between two bodies affected when distance between them is halved? (iii) What values of like do you learn from this law?

One physics expert has said that 'We cannot move our fingers without disturbing all stars'. Explain the logic behind this statement.

Assertion: When distance between bodies is doubled and also mass of each body is also doubled, gravitational force between them remains the same. Reason: According to Neweton's law gravitational, force is directely proportional to mass of bodies and inversely proportional to square of distance between them.

Assertion : Gravitational potential of earth at every place on it is negative. Reason : Every body on earth is bound by the attraction of earth.

Two bodies each of mass 10 kg attract each other with a force of 0.1 milligram weight. What is the distance between them ?

Assertion : Gravitational potential of earth at every place body are equal to one. Reason: Everybody on earth is bound by the attraction of earth.

Assertion : Distance-time graph of the motion of a body having uniformly accelerated motion is a straight line inclined to the time axis. Reason : Distance travelled by a body having uniformly accelerated motion is directly proportional to the square of the time taken.
