If the Earth be one third its present distance from the sun, how many days will the present one year on the surface of Earth will change?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, `T_(1) = 365 days , r_(1) = r , T_(2) = ? , r_(2) = r//3`
As `(T_(2)^(2))/(T_(1)^(2)) = (r_(2)^(3))/(r_(1)^(3))`
or `T_(2) = T_(1) ((r_(2))/(r_(1)))^(3//2) = 365 ((r//3)/(r ))^(3//2)`
`= 70.25 days`
Therefore, the decrease in number of days in one year will be `= 365 - 70.25 = 294.75 days`
