Assuming the earth to be a sphere of uniform density, how much could a body weight at a height eqaul to radius of earth when it weight `250 N` on the surface of earth.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Weight of body on surface of earth is
`mg = (GM m)/(R^(2)) = 250 N`
On height `h = R`, the weight of body is
`mg' = (GM m)/((R + R)^(2)) = (GM m)/(4R^(2)) = (mg)/(4) = (250)/(4)`
`= 62.5 N`
