Which of the following statement is correct about satellites?

A

A satellite can not move in a stable orbit in a plane passing through the earth's centre

B

Geostationary satellites are launched in the equatorial plane

We can just geostationary satellite for global communication around the globle

The correct Answer is:
B

Orbital velocity, `upsilon_(0) = sqrt((GM)/(r ))` and `T = (2pi r)/(upsilon_(0))`.
If `r` increases, `upsilon_(0)` decreases. For geostationary satellite, if `r` increases, `upsilon_(0)` also increases for a fixed value of `T`. i.e., for geostationary satellite the speed of a satellite increases with an increases in the radius of its orbit. in fact, a geostationary satellite is launches in the equatorial plane.
