The ratio of the radius of the earth to ...

The ratio of the radius of the earth to that of moon is `10`. The ratio of acceleration due to gravity on the earth and on the moon is `6`. What is the ratio (in intergral value) of the escape velocity from the earth's surface to that from the moon?

The correct Answer is:
`(8)`

`upsilon_(e) = sqrt(2 g_(e) R_(e))` and `upsilon_(m) = sqrt(2g_(m) R_(m))`
Here, `R_(e) = 10R_(m) , g_(e) = 6g_(m)`
`:. (upsilon_(e))/(upsilon_(m)) = sqrt((g_(e))/(g_(m)) xx (R_(e))/(R_(m))) = sqrt(6 xx 10) ~~8`
