The base of a ractangular vessel is 10 c...

The base of a ractangular vessel is `10 cm xx 15 cm`. It is taken at a depth of 4 m into the water. What is the pressure and thrust on the base of the vessel? Take `g = 10ms^(-2)`. Density of water = `10^(3) kg m^(-3)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Area of base of vessel,
`A= 10 cm xx 15 cm = 150 cm^(2)`
`=150 xx 10^(-4) m^(2)`
Depth of water, `h=4 m`,
Density of water `rho=10^(3)kg m^(-3)`
Pressure on the base of the vessel
`p=h rho g = 4 xx (10^3) xx 10 = 4 xx 10^(4) Nm^(-2)`
Thusts on the base of the vessel .
`F=PxxA=(4 xx 10^(4)) xx 150 xx 10^(-4) = 600N`
