The tension in a string holding a solid block below the surface of a liquid (of density greater than that of solid) as shown in figure is `T_(0)` when the system is at rest. What will be the tension in the string if the system has an upward acceleration a?

Let V be the volume of block of density `rho`. Let `sigma` be the density of liquid. Mass of block, `m=V rho`
Initially for the equilbrium of block, we have
Upward thrust = `V sigma g -T_(0) + V rho g`
when the lift is ac celerated upwards, then
`g rarr g+a`,
so `T=V(sigma - rho) (g+a)`
therefore, `T//T_(0) = [(g+a)//g]`
or `T=T_(0)[(g+a)//g]`.
