What is the force on a common man due to atmospheric pressure? Why one does not feel it?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Atmospheric pressure on the surface of the earth is about `10^(5)Nm^(-2)`. The average surface area of the body of a common man is about `2 m^(2)`. Thus the total force o a common man due to atmospheric pressure is `= 2 xx 10^(5)N`. One does not feel this large force because the blood of a man exerts a pressure slightly greater than the atmospheric pressure.
