The oil is sprinkled on sea waves to calm them down. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When the oil is sprinked, the sea breeze spreads the oil on the sea water in its direction of motion. The surface tension of sea water ( where there is no oil) being greater than the surface tension of oilyd water, the sea water will pull the oily water against the direction of breeze. As a result of it, an oil layer is created on the surface of sea water. Due to it, the sea waves will become calm.
