Water flows faster than honey. Why?...

Water flows faster than honey. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ac cording to poisecuille's formula, the volume 'V' of a liquid flowing persecond throught a horizontal marrow tube of radius r and length l under a pressure difference p across the two ends of the tube is given by
`V =(pi p r^4)/(8 eta l)`
where `eta` is the coeff. of viscosity of the liquid. For the given value of p,r and l.
`V prop 1/(eta)`
As `eta` for water is less as compared to honey, therefore V for water is greater than that of honey. On ac count of this, water flows faster than honey.
