Discuss the effect of temperature on the viscosity of liquids and gases.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The viscosity of liquid decreases rapidly with rise of temperature. For example , in case of water, the viscosity at `50^(@)C` is found to be about half of its value at `10^(@)C` . In case of castor oil, the viscostiy at `20^(@)C` is about `2//5th` of its value at `10^(@)C`.
The viscosity of all the gases increases with the rise in temperature.
