A body suspended from a spring balanc ce is immersed in water. If the coefficient of cubicacl expansion of water is twice that of the suspended body, then on heating the water, the reading on the spring balance decreases, increases or reamains the same, Explain.

The reading of the spring balance which measures the apparent weight will increase. Infact, on heating, the ture weight (=mg) of the body remains the same, but volume increases and density decreases proportionality. But for weight of water displaced, volume of the body increases and densiy of the water decreases at double the rate. Due to it, the upward thrust will become less and hence apparent weight will become more.
