A Copper wire and steel of the same diameter and length are connected end to end and a force is applied, which stretches their combined length by 1 cm. The two wires will have

A

the same stress

B

different stress

C

the same strain

D

different strain

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A, D

Stress `=(F)/(A)` and strain `=(stress)/(Y)`.
There is equal force F on each wire. As each wire is of same diameter and hence same area of cross-section, therefore, stress in both the wires is same. As Y for two wires is different, hence strain in them is different.
