A vessel is filled with a gas at a pressure of 76 cm of mercury at a certain temperature. The mass of the gas is increased by 50% by introducing more gas in the vessel at the same temperature. Find the resultant pressure of the gas.

According to kinetic theory of gases, pressure exerted by a gas is `P=1/3 rho C^(2)= 1/3 M/V C^(2)`
As temp. T is kept constant, therefore, `C^(2)` is constant. Also, V is constant
`:. P prop M or (P_2)/(P-1) = (M_2)/(M-1)`
`(P_2)/76 = ((M_(1)+50/100 M_(1)))/(M_1) = 3/2 `
`P_(2) = 3/2 xx 76 =114 "cm of mercury"`.
