Two identical springs have the same force constant of `147Nm^(-1)`. What elongation will be produced in each spring in each case shown in figure? `g=9.8ms^(-2)`.

Text Solution

Here`k=147Nm^(-1)`
In figure,
The effective spring constant,
`K=k+k=2k=2xx147=294Nm^(-1)`
`:.` elongation in the spring,
`y_(1)=(mg)/(K)=(5xx9.8)/(294)=(1)/(6)m`
In figure, the effective spring constant,
`K=(kxxk)/(k+k)=(k)/(2)=(147)/(2)Nm^(-1)`
`:.` Total elongation in the springs,
`y_(2)=(5xx9.8xx2)/(147)=(2)/(3)m`
Thus, elongation in each spring `1//3m`
In figure, the effective spring constant, `K=147Nm^(-1)`
`:.` elongation in the spring,
`y_(3)=(5xx9.8)/(147)=()/(3)m`
