At a constant temperature, pressure of a gas is made 4 times. How is velocity of sound in the medium affected ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Velocity of sound `=sqrt((gamma P)/(rho))` . When P is made 4 times, `rho` also becomes 4 times. The ratio `P//rho` remains constant. Therefore, velocity of sound through the medium remains the same.
