An open pipe is suddenly closed at one end with the result that the frequency of third harmonic of the closed pipe is found to be higher by `100 Hz` then the fundamental frequency of the open pipe. The fundamental frequency of the open pipe is

If l is length of pipe, then
frequency of 3rd harmonic of closed pipe `=(3upsilon)/(4l)`
and fundamental frequency of open pipe `=(upsilon)/(2l)`
Now `(3upsilon)/(4l)-(upsilon)/(2l)=100, or (upsilon)/(l)xx[(3)/(4)-(1)/(2)]=100`
or `(upsilon)/(l)=400`
Fundamental frequency of open pipe
`(upsilon)/(2l)=(400)/(2)=200Hz`
