Two sitar strings A and B playing the note 'Ga' are slightly out of tune and produce beats of frequency 6 Hz. The tension in the string A is slightly reduced and the beat frequency is found to reduce to 3 Hz. If the original frequency of A is 324 Hz, what is the frequency of B?

Here, freq. of A, `n_(1)=324`
No. of beats `//` sec, `m=6`
`:. `Possible freq. of B,
`n_(2)=n_(1)+-m=324+-6=330 or 318.` When tension in A slightly reducedd, its frequency decreases `( :'n prop sqrt(T))` to say 323,322, 321 etc. If freq. of B is taken as 330, beat freq. must increase. But actually the beat freq. decreases, therefore, original freq. of B must be 318 Hz
