Two cars moving in opposite directio approach each other with speed of `22m//s` and `16.5m//s` respectively . The driver of the first car blows a horn having a frequency `400Hz`. The frequency heard by the driver of the second car is `[` velocity of the sound `340m//s]`

A

`350Hz`

B

`361Hz`

C

`411Hz`

D

`448Hz`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Here, first car is the source, second car is listener
`upsilon_(s)=22m//s, v=400Hz`
`upsilon_(L)=16.5m//s, upsilon=340m//s`
As source and listener move towards eachother, therefore, `v^(')=((upsilon+upsilon_(L))v)/(upsilon-upsilon_(s))=((340+16.5)400)/(340-22)`
`=(356.5)/(318)xx400=448Hz`
