Assertion : Sound would travel faster on a not summer day than on a cold winter day,
Reason : Velocity of sound is directly proportional to the square of its aboslute temperature.

A

both, Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.

B

both, Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not a correct explanation of the Assertion.

C

Assertion is true but the Reason is false.

D

both,Assertion and Reason are false.

The correct Answer is:
a

The velocity of sound in a gas is directly proportional to square root of its temperature (in kelvin), `i.e., upsilon prop sqrt(T)`.
On a hot summer day, temperature is more than on a cold winter day. Hence velocity of sound on hot summer day is more than on cold winter day. Thus both, Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
