The earth's magnetic field at the equator is approximately `0*4G`, Estimate the earth's dipole moment.

If we assume that earth's magnetic field is due to a bar magnet at the centre of earth, held along the polar axis of earth, then the equatorial magnetic field is `B=(mu_0)/(4pi)(M)/(d^3)`
where d=R=radius of earth=`6*4xx10^6m`
Using `B=0*4G=0*4xx10^-4T`,
and `(mu_0)/(4pi)=10^-7WbA^-1m^-1` we get
`0*4xx10^-4=10^-7(M)/((6*4xx10^6)^3)`
`M=(0*4xx10^-4(64xx10^6))/(10^-7)`
`=1*05xx10^(23)Am^2`
