A galvanometer gives full scale deflecti...

A galvanometer gives full scale deflection with current `I_g`. Can it be converted into an ammeter of range `IltI_g`?

Text Solution

A galvanometer can be converted into an ammeter of given range by using a suitable shunt resistance S in parallel with the galvanometer given by `S=(I_gxxG)/(I-I_g)`
If `I lt I_g`, then the value of S is negative. Hence, a galvanometer can not be converted into an ammeter of range `I lt I_g`.
