Explain the main functions of electric and magnetic fields in a cyclotron.

The oscillating electric field acting between the two dees of the cyclotron will accelerate the charged particle when then particle passes through the gap between the two dees. The magnetic field makes the charged particle to describe a circular path inside the dee.
