When will a magnet in an external magnet...

When will a magnet in an external magnetic field be in unstable equilibrium?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The magnet is in unstable equilibrium, when `vecM` and `vecB` are directed opposite to each other i.e., when `theta=180^@`. Torque `=MB sin 180^@=zero` and `P.E. =-MBcos180^@=MB=maxim um`.
