What is the proof of earth's magnetism?

Text Solution

It is based on the following evidences:
(i) A magnet suspended from a thread and free to rotate in a horizontal plane comes to rest along the north-south direction.
(ii) When a soft iron piece is buries under the earth in the north-south direction, it is found to acquire the properties of a magnet after some time.
(iii) When we plot magnetic field lines of a magnet, neutral points are obtained.
