Needles N(1) , N(2), and N(3) are made o...

Needles `N_(1) , N_(2), and N_(3)` are made of a ferromagnetic, a paramagnetic and a diamagnetic substance respectively . A magnet when brought close to them will

A

attract `N_1` strongly, but repel `N_2` and `N_3` weekly

B

attract all three of them

C

attract `N_1` and `N_2` strongly, but repel `N_3`

D

attract `N_1` strongly, `N_2` weakly and repel `N_3` weakly

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

As ferromagnetics tend to move towards stronger magnetic field, so, `N_1` will get attracted strongly, paramagnetic also get attracted to stronger magnetic field upto some extent. So `N_2` will also get weakly attracted, but diamgentic, i.e., `N_3` tend to move away from magnetic field, hence `N_3` will get weakly repelled.

Define : (1) ferromagnetic (2) paramagnetic (3) diamagnetic substances

Three identical bars A, B and C are made of different magnetic materials. When kept in a uniform magnetic field, the field lines around them look as follows: Make the correspondence of these bars with their material being diamagnetic (D), ferromagnetic (F) and paramagnetic (P):

A: Above curie-point a ferromagnetic substance behaves as a paramagnetic substance. R: Magnetic susceptibility of a diamagnetic substance increases with rise in temperature.
