In the above problem, if the ring is cut somewhere, what would be the answer ?

If the metal rign is cut somewhere, e.m.f. will be induced, but no induced current can flow. Therefore, there will be no opposing force on the falling magnet. Hence acceleration of falling magnet will remain equal to 'g' throughtout.
