An iron rod is inserted in the inductor,...

An iron rod is inserted in the inductor, what will be the effect on the brightness of the bulb?

Text Solution

Current through the bulb
`I_(v) = (E_(v))/(Z) = (E_(v))/(sqrt(R^(2) + X_(L)^(2)))`, where `X_(L) = omega L`
On introducing an iron rod into the inductro its inductance L increases. `X_(L) = omega L` increases. Therefore, impedance Z increases. Current `I_(v)` through the bulb decreases. Hence brightness of bulb decreases.
