Study the circuit (a) and (b) shown in Fig. and answer the following questions.
(a) Under which conditions would the rms currents in the two circuits be the same ?
Can the rms curent in circuit (b) be larger than that in (a) ?

In fig. (a), `I_(v) = (E_(v))/(R )`
In fig. (b), `I'_(v) = (E_(v))/(Z) = (E_(v))/(sqrt(R^(2) + (X_(L) - X_(C))^(2))`
Clearly, `I'_(upsilon) = I_(upsilon)` only when `X_(L) = X_(C )`, i.e., at resonance only.
(b) As `R le Z`, so `I_(a) ge I_(b)`
Therefore, rms current in cuicuit (b) cannot be larger than that in circuit (a).
