Electrical energy is transmitted over large distances at high alternating voltages. Which of the following statements is (are) correct?

A

For given powe level, there is a lower current

B

Lower current implies less power loss

C

Transmission lines can be made thinner

D

It is easy to reduce the voltage at the receiving end using step-down transformers

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C, D

Electrical energy is transmitted over large distance at high alternaitng voltage. As `P = E_(upsilon) I_(upsilon)`, therefore for a given power level, current `(I_(upsilon))` is lower. Power loss ` = I_(upsilon)^(2) R` becoms low, even if transmission lines are thinner and R is a little high. At the receving end, high voltages can be easily reduced using step down transformers. Choices (a), (b), (c), (d), all are correct
