A current carrying infinitely long wire ...

A current carrying infinitely long wire is kept along the diameter of a circular wire loop, without touching it, the correct statements(s) is(are)

A

The emf induced in the loop is zero if the current is constant

B

The emf induced in the loop is finite if the current is constant

C

The emf induced in the loop is zero if the current decreases at a steady rate

D

The emf induced in the loop is finite is the current decreases at a steady rate

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A, C

When an infinitely long wire carrying current is kept along the diameter of a circular wire loop, without touching it, as shown in Fig. the amount of magnetic flux entering the loop is equal to amount of magnetic through the loop is always zero, whether the current is constant of current decreasing at a steady rate. Hence e.m.f. induced in the loop is zero in either case. Choice (a) and (c) are correct.
