How are electromagnetic waves produces by osillating charges ? Draw a sketch of linearly polarised em waves propagating in z-direction. Indicate the direction of oscillating electric and magnetic fields

Text Solution

An electric charge at rest has electric field
around it but no magnetic field. A moving charge
with a constant velocity produces both electric
field and magnetic field of constant values. But
if a charge is moving with a finite acceleration
or oscillating, both magnetic and electric field
will change in space with time. Due to it, e.m.
waves are produced.
A linearly polarised am waves propagating in
z-direction are shown in Fig.
