Suppose that the lower half of a concave mirror's reflecting surface is covered with an opaque non-reflecting material. What effect will this have on the image of an object placed in front of the mirror ?

As laws of reflection are true for all points of the mirror, the image will be of the whole object (and not of object as expected erroneously). However, as area of the reflecting surface has been reduces, the intensity of the image will reduce.

S1 : Intensity of the image will increase. S2 : The image will show only half of the object. S3 : No change in the image. S4 : Intensity if the image will be reduced to half.

A concave mirror produces three times magnified real image of an object placed at 10 cm in front of it. Where is the image located ?

Two plane mirrors are arranged such that their reflecting surfaces are perpendicular to each other. What is the number of images formed, when an object is placed between them?

(a) To construct a ray diagram, we use two rays which are so chosen that it is easy to know their directions after reflection from the mirror. List two such rays and state the path of these rays after reflection in case of concave mirrors. Use these two rays and draw ray diagram to locate the image of an object placed between pole and focus of a concave mirror. (b) A concave mirror produces three times magnified image on a screen. If the object is placed 20 cm in front of the mirror, how far is the screen from the object?
