Mark the statement true or false :
`(a) In Young's double slit expt, performed with a source of white light, only black and white fringes are observed.
(b) Two slits in Young's double slit expt are illuminated by by two different sodium lamps emitting light of same wavelength. No interference pattern will be obtained.

Text Solution

(a) False. With a source of white light central maximum is white. The fringes are coloured i.e., bright bands are coloured and dark bands are dark. The centre of pattern is white.
(b) True. Two different sodium lamps cannot be coherent even. When they emit light of same wavelength. Therefore, no interference pattern will be pbtained.
