Why can we not get diffraction pattern from a wide slit illuminated by monochromatic light ?

When slit is wide (i.e. `a gt gt lambda`), bending of light becomes so small that it cannot be detected upto a certain distance of screen from the slit. Hence, practically, no detectable diffraction occurs.
