A concave mirror of focal length 20 cm f...

A concave mirror of focal length `20 cm` forms a real image of a point object at `O` a distance of `40 cm` from the mirror. The mirror is cut into two halves, which are drawn `1.0 cm` apart in perpendicular direction, as shown in Fig. 6(APC).2. How will the two halves of the mirror produce the image of the point object at `O` ?

Shows a concave mirror with `f = PF = - 20 cm`, object distance, `PO = - 40cm = R`

Therefore, its image is formed at `O` itself.
As the concave mirror is cut into two equal halves and they are drawn `1.0 cm` apart in perpendicular direction. as shown in Fig. then for upper half mirror, `O` is `0.5 cm` below the principal axis. Its image will be formed at `(2 f)` at `O_(1)`, but `0.5 cm` above the principal axis. Similarly, for lower half mirror, `O` is `0.5 cm` above the principal axis. Its image will be formed ar (`2f)` at `O_(2)`, but `0.5 cm` below the principal axis. Therefore, the tow images formed will be `1.0 cm` apart as shown in Fig.
