In a pure semiconductor, the number of conduction electrons is `6xx10^(19)` per cubic metre. Find the total number of current carriers (electrons and holes) in a same semiconductor of size `1cmxx1cmxx1mm`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Total no. of current carriers in a sample =no. of electrons + no. of holes in that sample.
In a pure semiconductor, no. of electrons = no. of holes= no. density electron `xx` volume of sample
`=(6xx10^(19))xx(10^(-2)xx10^(-2)xx10^(-3))=6xx10^(12)`
Total number of current carriers
`=6xx10^(12)+6xx10^(12)=12xx10^(12)`
